When I first met Loretta the first thought that came to my mind was "but she is so young!" after training with her for a good year, the realization dawned on me that a good teacher never ages. I used to eat my words, confuse my thoughts and speaking in crowds was a big no! But then how was I as Miss Sri Lanka going represent the country for the whole world to see at the miss universe? Speech delivery without technique is pointless and that is exactly what Loretta was able to teach me and technique without training defeats the whole purpose. Day in and day out we researched, improved my vocabulary, worked on voice modulation, diction, expanded my thoughts and made my mind fit and strong and confident. I can talk in front of a crowd of two or two thousand now, it does not phase me, because I have trained myself to focus on my purpose and give meaning to everything I say, but like I said "train" is the key word here and there is no better trainer according to me than Loretta. She is my mentor, my guru and was definitely my strength during those trying times of preparations and I admire her and respect her for her great talent. Hi Mamm , it was a really super training. When you came and introduced yourself and other stuff I thought this will be just another training session like what other people do- Come and Boast about themselves and that is why I was not interested in the morning. This is an unsolicited testimony of Loreta Gunawardena, the Master Trainer I knew, who transformed the lives of many who had dreams of becoming a cabin crew member with an airline, but failed many interviews till they met Loretta. A Great Teacher, Mentor, that perfect Lady and Friend she is to her students when engaged, she never looks back and is more excited to accomplish her part than any other – don’t be surprised if she is in your workplace the next morning even before the security guard could smell the coffee. It was during my time as Manager HRD & Training at SriLankan Airlines, that I engaged Loreta to help us transform those young men and women who missed the mark by far at cabin crew interviews owing to language, finesse, lack of self-confidence and more. The sad faces and the emotions of these rejected candidates, perhaps wondering how to break the bad news to the village mom and dad who has come along with them of the bad news, they have committed all the resources they had to prepare the child for the big moment, traveling that distance was probably the hardest and the saddest experience in life to heed. The challenge to transform these uncut-diamonds needed a daring trainer. This is when we engaged Loreta.

How amazing it was after four months, when we re-interviewed them we had a success rate of 81% and today all these un-cut diamonds who were well cut and polished thanks to Loreta is serving the Nation well with pride as our ambassadors in the sky. Besides her professionalism and perfection to her product delivery system, she is so brave in traveling to any location even overseas, and conduct training despite the risks posed by the external environment. I recall an incident in Mumbai during floods where she was locked inside for few days and she enjoyed every moment and returned after accomplishing her project to perfection - This was during a project when she was engaged by SriLankan Airlines. This was just one example only, she continued to add value and transform the lives of many undergraduate mentees of the local universities as part of the Government initiated Project undertaken by the Chamber of Ceylon – the amazing results were praiseworthy, some of her students are still in contact with me excelling in reputed business overseas a blessing indeed. When I speak of management trainees in most large conglomerates, and multinationals I have been associated with in senior HR Management roles where we engaged Loretta, there has been many instances where some of them have confessed that Loreta has given them additional sessions at her free time for no charge.. such a passionate personality is a rare find in this day and age. There is no person, who cannot be transformed in her eyes, this is her approach towards work ethics and with her humble personality she became the preferred choice even to coach top executives, and in this Endeavour the confidentiality expected to maintain by her was never in question. When I came home after your workshop my sister said I was happier than usual. My mom said I sounded happy and excited than usual as well. She also suggested that I go for more that 4 sessions if I have to.
